Happy Memorial Day!

Happy Memorial Day!

I hope those of you who have the day off have a fabulous one! I will spend the day packing, packing, packing, packing. One week from today we move everything out of our house. We are still going to spend the night in the house (camp-out style with no beds or anything) because it makes me sad to think that we could have spent an extra night in our sweet old house and we didn't.

It is all starting to hit me. We are about to leave the house that we lived in when we got married, when I had Cora, when she took her first steps, and said her first words. What makes this all even harder is that Cora is getting sad about things getting packed away or taken down from the walls. Every day, she points to where a picture of a llama hung on the wall and says "llama gone" in the saddest/ cutest voice you've ever heard. Then I say, "I know the llama is gone, but we will see him again." She starts nodding like she knows everything is going to be OK and says "Dav Dav" meaning we will see the llama again in Davidson. Then we repeat this process with the penguin, the duck, and the pig. Aha! As I am typing this I just figured out that she is talking about her piggy bank. I had been trying to convince her that there was no pig picture in her room.

And, now you know the three most important things in Cora's room. I didn't know they were favorites until they were gone.

We stopped by our new house to check out the progress for a quick second yesterday and Cora picked out where the llama, the penguin, the duck and the pig would go in her new house.

Here she is checking out the ceilings with Scott.

The good news for Cora about us taking everything off the wall is that the chalkboard in her room is temporarily at her height.

Here is one more Cora photo to celebrate Memorial Day (let it be known that this photo has nothing to do with Memorial Day). On the way up to see our new house, we saw a random dog in our neighborhood that looked like it didn't belong. So, I stopped and checked its tag. Sure enough, it was from a nearby neighborhood. The dog was SUPER DUPER friendly and Cora thought it was pretty fantastic that we got to hang out with the dog until his owner came.
ps this photo doesn't show off the dog's happy personality. I promise he was a sweetie.

The Memorial Day fun isn't over yet. I have a few shout outs:

Happy birthday to my BFF, Sandra Dee!!!!

Congratulations to my dad and my sister for finishing their walk on the Camino de Santiago. They went to Spain and walked about 200 miles in less than 3 weeks. You can follow the adventure on my dad's blog, Young Codger!
Here they are walking on the camino. They hit a bit of a snow storm, but for the most part they had pretty nice weather.

I hope to be back with a full post tomorrow!

Building Birthday Dinosaur Hooks

I'm going to start you out with a little peak at what's coming your way!

Usually, I give the birthday shout outs at the end of the page, but today the whole post is birthday related. So, HAPPPPPYYYYYY BIRTHDAY to my wonderful, amazing, beautiful, smart, clever, talented, sweetie pie of a sister!
Look at that graceful little leg-warmer-ed cutie! Those leg warmers definitely came from one of our awesome Get In Shape, Girl kits! Anyone else remember that?

On to the dinosaur hooks! As I have told you before, my sister really likes dinosaurs. So, for her birthday I planned to make her dinosaur bookends like these:
source
I bought the dinosaurs and something didn't seem right. So, I tried to think what else I could make with plastic dinosaurs. I thought about making her awesome dinosaur jewelry or a dinosaur hat.
source
I knew that she would look beautiful in the hat, but I wanted to make her something more practical.

Finally, I landed on dinosaur hooks for scarves or keys or cardigans or whatever else you want.

I started by cutting those dollar store dinos in half. I tried a knife and scissors. FYI the knife was the big winner there.

Then I did a little test positioning on the board (and took a super blurry photo of it).

Spray paint made its way onto the scene and temporarily dyed my fingers blue.

Hole drilling time.

I forgot to take a photo of the next step. So, please picture a very messy spackle application to the inside of the hollow dinosaurs. I did this so I could screw them into the board.

Next, I put some Gorilla Glue on the back of them and stuck them on the board. I managed to get Gorilla Glue all over the place and a big disappointed finger shake from Scott.
FYI- the dust all over the place is from drilling into the board.

Spray paint came crawling back on the scene and apologized for the blue finger situation.

I screwed the spackled dinosaurs into the board for a little extra stability and added a sawtooth hanger to each side.

All that work left me with quite the beauty. So, I did the normal thing and did a little photo shoot of Ms. Blue Dino Hook around the house.

Here she is in use!

Price Breakdown:
4 dinosaurs: $4
Board: free from my scrap wood pile
Gorilla Glue, spackle, screws: already had
Spray paint: $1
Sawtooth hangers: $1.50

= Grand total of $6.50!

Happy birthday, wonderful sister!!!!
I love you!

My Favorite Cora Photos! 7-8 Months Old, Part 2

Hey, you weekend people!
I am back with a look at the 2nd installment of my favorite Cora pictures from month 7 to 8!

She is riding a Dora car here, but she hadn't fallen in love with her Dora doll yet so this car didn't mean much to her yet.

Mama and her little headband baby.

Having a tea party with Grandmama!

She figured out the whole tea party thing and invited her dog, Violet, to the party.

Aunt Kelly and her bonnet baby.

Time for another tea party!

Blue t-shirt party, and a little hair pulling.

Mr. Dad and the bonnet baby!

Someone got intense on her car.

And, she made it up!

Are they making the same face?

I love that baby smile!

I think she is making the dog pant sound here.

Just waking up!

She thinks she needs to take control of the camera.

One more crib shot!

She's a stander!

Mastering the high five!

8 month birthday!

Boo and Cora!

The Pebbles look!

More Cora time:
